Starting a business in the Gen Z era

4 mins read
In a world fueled by social media outlets, and online resources, it’s never been easier to start your own business.
  • It’s never been easier to be your own boss.
  • It’s never been easier to make a 6 figure income.
  • It’s never been easier to go viral on the internet.
Female entrepreneurship is on the rise and we love to see it. However, there are things no one talks about such as the sacrifices that need to be made to running a business. The mental health issues that arise along the way. Your overall mindset of being a true entrepreneur.. and so much more. These are the things nobody talks about but you have gurus promising overnight success.

Embrace your entrepreneurial Journey

Let me introduce myself, my name is Carol and I run a Toronto-based social media agency called 967 social helping sustainable Fashion, beauty, and wellness brands build and scale their business through Organic Instagram marketing strategies.

As a female entrepreneur myself, I want to let you know that your business does not stop at creating a pretty Instagram page and promoting your business on TikTok. Sorry to call you out but entrepreneurship has been associated with this cool thing of being on TikTok and putting the “founder” status in your Instagram bio.

A business advice from a female entrepreneur to another, if you want to start your own business, get to welcome everything else that comes within an entrepreneurship journey.

What do I mean by this?

Well when you’re a business owner, you are constantly going to think about your business. Whether you are in the shower, watching a movie or getting ready for bed. It will be a constant in your mind.

It will have a barrier on your mental health and your relationships will change. It’s up to you what you want to do with the change and how you will welcome the new adjustments in your life.

Staying motivated while building your business

You know the saying “entrepreneurship is not for everybody” well it’s true. Anyone can be an entrepreneur but not everyone will have the same success.

The ones that make it have something special and that is a strong-willed mindset. Their drive never stops, and their hunger for evolution never ends.

They push through the rough patches to get to the wins. Giving up does not exist in their dictionary.

Coming from a personal standpoint, since starting my business, I’ve lost friendships, went through mental and emotional stages of losing confidence and feeling not good enough.

With all that, I’ve gained the strength to keep moving forward, learned to train my mind to become the best version of myself. I refused to accept “no” as an answer.

People often ask me or wonder how I stay motivated all the time?

My answer is: I don’t. I have my bad days where it feels impossible to get any work done and I let myself feel that way and go through the motions. The only difference is that now, I have the necessary tools to get back up.

So the next time you hear someone promise you “overnight success” or try to sell you their course, ask yourself this question: Have they done what I want to achieve? If not, then move along to someone who has. An advice from one female entrepreneur to another, never take advice from someone who hasn’t done what you want to do. It’s that simple.
