5 women written business books to boost your business growth

3 mins read

Did you know that in 2020 men named Jo(h)n have written as many of 2020’s top business books as all women combined? This poses the question of why there are so few women authors being at the top of the business category. At the same time, it raises a different question, why we are not reading more female-written books? Apparently, it has to do more with the fact of what is perceived as an ideal leader, rather than let’s say tangible facts such as quality and content.

Well, let’s change that, shall we? Below is a list of 5 books you can start reading today and make a change!

  1.  She made it: The toolkit for female founders in the digital age by Angelica Malin
  2. Resonate: Present Visual Stories that Transform Audiences by Nancy Duarte
  3. The pyramid principle, logic in writing and thinking by Barbara Minto
  4. The creativity leap by Natalie Nixon
  5. Becoming bulletproof by Eva Pompuras
  6. BONUS: The Mountain Is You: Transforming Self-Sabotage Into Self-Mastery by Brianna Weist

She made it: The toolkit for female founders in the digital age by Angelica Malin

This is a book that will resonate with many women at the beginning of their entrepreneurial journeys. In the book, the author has gone through a similar journey that equips aspiring entrepreneurs with the necessary tools to get their businesses started. Have you ever read a book that answers all your concerns when starting a business? If not, this is it! “She made it” is like having a friend going through all the concerns you have when starting your business.

After reading it myself, I enjoyed doing the exercises and questions that helped further develop my business idea.

Resonate: Present Visual Stories that Transform Audiences by Nancy Duarte

Presentations don’t have to be boring! They can be fun and engaging and full of meaning. If you want to learn more about how to move your audience to action through your presentation, this is the book for you.

Whether you are pitching to future investors, you want to attract more clients or simply give a presentation, Nancy will guide you through the necessary steps to deliver your message.

The principles you will learn in this book will define how you connect with your audience and how you can quickly reach out to their pain points through a story.

The pyramid principle, logic in writing and thinking by Barbara Minto

In a similar way as Resonate, with the pyramid principle, Barbara shows a structured way in which you can present your ideas and drive your audience through a story.

Barbara herself was one of the first female consultants at Mckinsey, and spent a big part of her career on report writing. Her curiosity about how to better convey ideas in a structured way, has led her to research and write about the pyramid principle. This structure can be applied to any document basically.

If you are required to write a long article, your own book or any other document Barbara has a clear structure to get you started. It is such a simple concept, once you understand how it works it can be applied as many times as you want.

Becoming bulletproof by Evy Pompouras

Up until reading Evy´s book, all the books I remember reading about personal strength, discipline and confidence were written by men. Now, this book is an eye-opener that teaches you how you can become a more powerful and confident version of yourself.

Evy is one of the five only to receive an Honor Medal and has been protecting at least 3 US presidents as a service agent. Her experience and resilience are indescribable and motivate you to take action and become a more confident version of yourself.

In addition to the tips and strategies she explores in the book, her personal story proves that the only limits we have are in our minds. Becoming bulletproof will help you prepare for stressful situations, instantly read people, influence how you are perceived, and live a more fearless life.

The Mountain Is You: Transforming Self-Sabotage Into Self-Mastery by Brianna Weist

Whenever you are doubting yourself, get into a circle of low confidence, anger ,and other negative emotions, there are many other underlying or unconscious thoughts you might be holding to. In “The Mountain is You”, Brianna provides a guide to identifying those limiting beliefs and strategies on how to tackle them.

For centuries, the mountain has been used as a metaphor for the big challenges we face, especially ones that seem impossible to overcome. To scale our mountains, we have to do the deep internal work of excavating trauma, building resilience, and adjusting how we show up for the climb.

BONUS: The creativity leap by Natalie Nixon

Innovation is essential to survive in an ever-changing economic landscape, and as the author mentions, creativity is crucial in this process. But there are many questions about how to implement these processes. Once companies reach a certain level of maturity, they become complacent and do not put so much effort into innovating. But in an ever-changing world, this is essential to survive. The creativity leap is full of insights and anecdotes to enable you to get out of the complacency phase and start working on a disruptive business.
